NUCAR Collaborative Working Visit to the Non-Clinical GLP Test Facilities at the Universiti Sains Malaysia and National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia

Since January 2023, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornnarin Taepavarapruk, who is the director of the Naresuan University Center for Animal Research, Thailand and Dr. Jahangir Bin Kamaldin from the Department of Toxicology, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia who specializes in the field of non-clinical regulatory toxicology (OECD-GLP), have been planning a collaborative working visit programme under the APUCEN upon preliminary supports from the heads of the three GLP test facilities located in the Penang, Malaysia, namely Dr. Nor Azlina Khalil (Preclinical Translational Unit, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zary Shariman Yahaya (Vector Control Research Unit, School of Biological Sciences) and Dr. Faisalina Ahmad Fisol (Animal Research Facility, Malaysian Institute of Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical).

The objectives of their working visit were:
➢ NUCAR to explore collaboration opportunity with the GLP test facilities in Penang, Malaysia
➢ NUCAR to provide continuous education for its staff on the best practices by other GLP toxicology test facilities
➢ NUCAR to introduce its staff to other regulatory GLP studies (insecticide bioassay).

VCRU looks forward to mutual benefits between these three institutions in enabling engagement with both local and international industries towards innovation for the well-being of the community, consistent with our aspiration of SDG 3 and SDG 9.
