VECTOR CONTROL RESEARCH UNIT | UNIVERSITI SAINS MALAYSIA
Coordinator of VCRU
Welcoming message from our leader
Assalamualaikum waramatullahi wabarakatuh and warm greetings to everyone,
Welcome to our new Vector Research Control Unit (VCRU) website, which we have set up to commemorate the 30th year of our establishment in 2021. I am very proud to say that we have come a long way from being a small research unit, starting with only a few staff to become one of the leading bio-efficacy testing centres in the Asia-Pacific Region. All of this would not come to its fruition if not for our past and present committed personnel’s hard work that has put VCRU at its height now.
The VCRU was established in 1991 to consolidate and enhance the research potential in vector control. The unit is equipped with various facilities in insecticide resistance, toxicology and analysis, space spray applications, and household and public health insecticide formulation studies. The VCRU is also a leading centre in vector and urban pest control research in Asia and has excellent rearing facilities for many species and strains of vector mosquitoes, cockroaches and flies, and facilities for conducting field research. In addition, VCRU has been accredited for OECD Good Laboratory Practise (GLP) certification and ISO17025:2017 certification for a bio-efficacy testing facility. This unit also manufactures insecticide resistance monitoring test kits and insecticide-impregnated papers which comply with the technical specifications and guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva. With its strong productivity in scientific publications, services, and postgraduate students’ output, the unit is recognised as one of the leading research facilities for vector and urban pest control studies in the Asia-Pacific region.
I do hope you enjoy browsing our website and find all the information you needed. Last but not least, if you wish to request any of our testing services, please do contact us directly, and we will provide the best service for you.
All the best and warm regards,
Associate Professor Dr Zary Shariman Yahaya Coordinator Vector Control Research Unit School of Biological Sciences Universiti Sains Malaysia
